How many upvotes does it take to top Product Hunt?

About 450 in 2026. On a typical day this year the most-voted launch had 456 votes, the fifth 194 and the tenth 114. That is less than in 2024, when the top launch had about 670. Numbers for every day since 2022, by year and by weekday.

The short answer: about 450 votes in 2026. On a typical day this year, the most-voted launch on Product Hunt had 456 votes, and on half of all days it was between 381 and 574. The fifth most-voted had about 194 and the tenth about 114. That’s less than it took two years ago: in 2024 the top launch of a typical day had 669. Even at the top, the votes are now spread across more launches.

I worked this out from Product Hunt’s own API: every featured launch since January 2022 that reached 100 votes, grouped by the day it launched and ranked by votes. That covers 1,761 days. Product Hunt ranks the day with its own formula, not raw votes, so read these as “the most-voted launch of the day”.

What it took, year by year

Each number is the median across that year’s days:

2026 (to Oct)456381 to 57428519411421.8

The bar rose from 2022 to 2024 and has fallen since. The rise lines up with the last column: when Product Hunt cut featured launches from about 41.2 a day in 2023 to about 19.8 in 2024, the day’s votes went to fewer launches and the top one got more. The fall is harder to pin down. Featured launches stayed few in 2025 (about 14.3 a day) and the top still fell, so it isn’t just more homepage spots. My guess is fewer people voting, spread over launches that went from about 119 a day to about 676, but this data can’t show it.

How much it varies from day to day

The median hides a wide range. In 2026, 5 of 300 days had a launch with 1,000 votes or more, and on 12 days the top launch had fewer than 300. On 81 days the tenth most-voted featured launch didn’t reach 100 at all, so 100 votes would have put you in the top ten. One big launch can take a day out of reach, and you can’t see who else is launching until the day starts.

The day of the week moves the bar too. Over the last twelve months:

Thursday488213
Friday461192
Saturday373154
Sunday407172

A Saturday took about 373 votes to top, against about 559 on a Wednesday. But weekend launches are featured less often, so the cheaper day is also the harder one to get onto the homepage. The trade-off is in What’s the best day to launch on Product Hunt?

Where the votes come from

Most launches get nowhere near these numbers: the typical 2026 launch has 1 vote, and almost every launch that reaches 100 votes was featured. So the first question isn’t how to get 450 votes. It’s whether you’ll be on the homepage at all, and Does Product Hunt still work? covers what the data says about that.

When you are featured, a good share of the votes are ones you bring. In the 68 launch write-ups I read on Reddit, founders who finished high usually had an email list, a following or a community behind them, and two estimated that half or more of their votes came from their own outreach. Others described being messaged by people selling upvotes within minutes of going live. Product Hunt’s rules ban buying votes, and founders suspect plenty get through anyway. Either way, a vote you paid for doesn’t come with a customer attached.

What I’d aim for

  1. Decide whether you’re playing for the top spot. Topping a typical weekday in 2026 took about 450 to 550 votes. If you can’t see where that many will come from, aim for the top five or ten instead, which took about 194 and 114.
  2. Count the people you can ask, not the people you hope will find you. If your list, followers and communities add up to fewer people than the votes you need, the launch will rest on Product Hunt’s own visitors, and almost all of them go to the top few launches.
  3. Go live at 12:01 a.m. Pacific and ask early. Almost all launches that reached 100 votes went live in the first hour of the day, so a launch that starts later has already lost most of the day’s votes.
  4. Don’t buy votes. Beyond the risk of being penalised, it gets you the badge without the visitors who would have used the product. What a high rank actually brought founders is in What does a Product Hunt launch actually bring?

What I can’t tell you

These are vote counts as of 27 October 2026, not the official daily rankings, which Product Hunt works out with its own formula. A launch keeps collecting a few votes after its day, so older launches have a few more than they had at midnight. And I only collected launches with 100 or more votes, so on days when fewer than ten featured launches reached 100, the tenth place counts as under 100.

How I did it

For every month from January 2022 to October 2026, I asked Product Hunt’s public API (GraphQL, version 2) for its launches sorted by votes, and kept collecting until the votes fell below 100. That gave every featured launch with 100 or more votes, 24,536 in all. I grouped them by the day they went live (the UTC date, which matches Product Hunt’s Pacific-time day for launches that go live in its first hour, as nearly all of these did), ranked each day’s launches by votes, and took the median of each rank across the year’s days.

Every number on this page is free to quote. The download has what I worked from, so you can check your own launch against it:

  • 59 categories, year by year since 2022: how many launches, how many were featured, and the odds of reaching 100 and 500 votes. Find out whether your category is crowded before you pick it.
  • Every day since January 2022: launches, featured launches, how many reached 100, 250 and 500 votes, and the votes of the day’s 1st, 3rd, 5th and 10th most-voted launch.
  • Every month, with the share of featured launches that reached 100 votes.
  • The 68 founders’ launch write-ups: rank, votes, visitors, sign-ups, paying customers and whether it lasted, with a link to each post.
